Stripers are responding furiously! Print E-mail
Friday, 09 April 2010
The only thing heating up faster than the bay's water temperature is the fishing. The observed bay temps [ outgoing tide] has been mid to lower sixties and the stripers are responding furiously! The size of fish has ranged from 12' all the way up to 34" and with the hooks being straightened out on one of our plugs I am sure there is "larger lunkers lurking"! Say that 3 times fast . Ken Purzycki joined by son Micheal and Grand Pa Ken sr. were out on 3hr Bay special to slam 15 stripers , no keepers were boated but the guys had a blast with the stripers on light spinning tackle ! Regular Jay Simmons was out for an early top water striper bite on poppers in the shallow flats of the bay ! We had visual fish breaking water around the boat chasing bait clear out of the water and competing for our poppers! I was able to land a fat 30" striper while Jays hooks staighten out on his plug [ meant for smaller fish] releasing his striper to fight another day. Closer by the inlet we managed to go 1-2 on stripers landing a nice 34" striper on clam. With a few more schoolies boated and the wind starting to reach "Huricane " strength we headed for the barn. Even though the season is "early" and most boats charter and private are still covered up we have manged over 40++ bass in only 4 trips !! I do have a few more openings for the 3hr Bay specials running through April , these trips are available Thursday, Fridays and Sundays evenings 5-8pm and all bait and tackle are included. I have 2 spots open for next Friday April 16th. I expect the big slammer blue fish will be making an early showing any day with the extended weather forecast looking to remain warm for evening more drag burning fun!
Best Regards,

Man it felt so great to be fishing again after this winter !This week was Reel Fantasea Fishing Charters first couple of days of the early season back at it with regulars Jay Simmons and Ernie Rosenberg onboard teaming up for great striper fishing ! Along with great striper action, we saw our first laughing gulls of the season, we had our first and second " Doubled Up " with stripers! and if that were not enough Ernie has the honors of securing our first limit of stripers at 29" and 33" all on light spinning tackle ! The first day of the season saw 8 stripers with the second trip seeing a solid 17 total bass come over the rail along with a limit of stripers to 33". I will be running these trips [ private and open boat trips] through out the rest of April for those interested call for details. I have 2 spots left for May 13th open boat trip and May 28th as private charter and with June being our trophy striper month there is only a few dates left for those who would like a chance to catch a fish of a lifetime! We have been on Face Book for a couple of weeks now for those who would like to join our fan base and possible meet others with the same interest I would love to hear from you. Anyone interested in Open Boat status or availablity shoot me a email or call for information. The season is off to a great start time to get in the action !

Whew ! What a winter this year has been with the cold temps and record snow falls all along the Eastern seaboard and yet still another winter storm is is bearing down on our area , Who's ready for Spring and some fishing ? Striped bass and bluefish will start showing up by late April and I will be starting our 2010 fishing season as of May 1st [ only 2 months away ! Yeah !] and I look forward to seeing everyone after this wintery record breaker !

This year I have moved to Sun Harbor Marina [ right up the street from old dock]. Sun Harbor Marina has a swimming pool, grill [ Mmm , can you smell the fresh fish grillen'] , picnic tables, and clean bathrooms and shower facilties for your use and enjoyment and with a luchenette on the premises also scheduled to open soon , it will hopefully add to your enjoyment and convience. I have been blessed with the oppurtunity to enjoy a Florida Vacation this week with my whole family including my Wife and Kids and Father , brother and sisters and there Families . The weather has been beautiful and temps in the mid to upper 70's to high's of 80f with only a smattering shower making for my lifelong dream of coming to the Keys a wonderful reality for us all. I hope the pics that I sent along helps to warm you in some way for those who could not get away this winter. The fishing down here has been a really cool experience with all the variety of species of fish !!We are staying at Lime Tree Bay Resorts in the Zane Grey town houses located right on the water. Catching a variety of fish from the dock made for plenty of excitement for both kids young and old .

I know I don't have to tell anyone how cold it's been this winter but here are some pics that you may enjoy . The seal is one that has returned to Barnegat Light for a few years . I am not sure what kind he/she is though, there is a colony of winter resident seals on the sod banks every winter , but for some reason this seal seems to be a loaner .

We finished our 2009 fishing season this week with frigid 18 degree temps at time of departure making ice on every surface that the sea spray came in contact with [ boat, canvas, rods.....]. Regulars Jay Simmons and Ernie Rosenberg spent most of the day attempting to catch a few more stripers before they closed out their season . Although we gave maximum effort we could not find any stripers willing to cooperate so it was off to some wrecks for some nice blackfish action. The guys finished the day with a strong blackfish bite but with a strong snow storm baring down on us we had to head for the dock where a fork lift was waiting for us for the end of season haul out. It is a sad time of year but it has been a great season and with that I look forward to the next. Remember we are already booking for the 2010 season !
Thanks for a great Season !!
Happy Holidays from mine to yours,
Captain Steve Purul
